Camping In National Forests The Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests The Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests are a combination of separate National Forests located on the western slope of the Colorado Rockies. These three combined Forests cover 3,161,912 acres of public land in the central and southern Rocky Mountains and offer a wide range of recreational opportunities for all visitors. The road to the site is steep and nearly impassable when it snows. Billy Creek State Wildlife Area This area is primarily for hunting and observing wildlife. Clear Fork Campground This campground offers 21 individual camping sites. Five of these sites are for tents, while the remaining sites are for trailers/RV's with NO hook-ups. Cobbett Lake Campground This campground has 20 sites available. Crag Crest Campground This campground has 11 sites available. Dakota Terraces Campground Dutch Charlie recreation area is within walking distance of the lake and swim beach. The campground has RV electrical hookups and shared water. Elk Creek Campground This campground provides 73 individual campsites for visitors trailers/RVs. Forty five of these sites have electrical hook-ups, the remaining 28 have no hook-ups. There are an additional eight sites that are designated for tents only. Elk Ridge Campground Located in a pinion-juniper forest with a view of the surrounding San Juan Mountains, Elk Ridge offers RV campsites that have electric hookups and shared water. There are ten sites that are strictly for tent camping. Island Lake Campground This campground has 41 sites available. Lake Fork Campground This campground provides 52 individual campsites for trailers/RVs. None of these sites have any hook-ups. There are an additional five sites that are designated for tents only. Little Bear Campground This campground has 36 sites available. North Rim Campground This campground provides 13 sites in a Pinyon-Juniper forest along with vault toilets, tables, and grills. Water is available mid-May to mid-October, and there are no hook-ups. Pa-Co-Chu-Puk Campground This campground features 81 campsites with full utility hookups. Walk-in tenters will enjoy the 15 campsites located in a secluded forested area. Sites 200 through 295 are just below the reservoir dam and feature full utility hookups. Silver Jack Campground This campground has 60 sites available. South Rim Campground The South Rim offers 88 sites in oak-brush forest. Vault toilets, tables, and grills are provided.
